Scarification is the process of mechanically removing excess thatch and debris from the lawn using heavy duty flails (knives) on a motorised machine.  It is a very intrusive treatment, sometimes unsightly, but is a critical process in the fight against moss.  If your lawn has excess thatch it acts like a sponge, holding moisture above the soil, creating perfect conditions for moss to thrive and therefore preventing important nutrients such as water, fertiliser and oxygen from getting to the grass roots. A light Over Seed especially after scarification is highly beneficial to any lawn.  It speeds up recovery and also adds new fresh grasses to your lawn.

Scarification produces a large amount of thatch waste.  This is collected, bagged and cleared from your lawn.  If required this can be put onto you compost heap, disposed of in your brown bin or we are able to take the bags away at a charge.

Scarify at the right time, in the right conditions, and your lawn will recover quickly and look beautiful in no time!  Autumn is usually considered the best time to scarify because the lawn will have the remainder of the growing season and the whole of winter to recover.  Spring is also a time when Scarification can be carried out, but consideration should be made that recovery might take longer if conditions turn hot and dry.
