Top Dressing
This is a thin layer (a few mm) of medium. Usually a mix of sand and loam or solely sand or organic matter (loam). It can be used in conjunction with seeding to add protection, hold moisture and ensure good seed to soil contact. Top dressing is also used to change over time the make up of a lawns sub soil. An example a sand top dressing is applied to a heavy clay soil to aid drainage. Or an organic dressing is added to a sandy sub soil to help aid nutrient and water retention. Top dressing can also help iron out any shallow dips and imperfections in a lawn. (Recommended after Hollow Tine Aeration)

Over Seeding
A light over seed especially after Scarification is highly beneficial to any lawn. It speeds up recovery and also adds new fresh grasses to your lawn. This process is usually carried out in Spring or Autumn when adequate moisture is available and the soil temperature is still warm.
